xxxHomeless on the Ridge (Oct 22-24)

October 22
Today we head to Blowing Rock. Not just the town of Blowing Rock but the attraction of Blowing Rock – more on that later. Yesterday while at the Mast General Store in Villa Crucis, Thee Saint saw a place she wanted to eat but they were closed. So today I agreed to bring her back. This place was in a large house and was named “Over Yonder”

We had a great meal and now I can say I know where over yonder is.
Now to Blowing Rock. The Blowing Rock is an immense cliff 4,000 feet above sea level, overhanging Johns River Gorge 3,000 feet below. The phenomenon is so called because the rocky walls of the gorge form a flume through which the northwest wind sweeps with such force that it returns light objects cast over the void.  The current of air flowing upward from The Rock prompted the Ripley’s “Believe-It-Or-Not” cartoon about “the only place in the world where snow falls upside down.”

There was a platform that went over the cliff that was extremely windy and cold. I tried to take off my jacket and hold it over the edge to show how strong the wind was. But it was too cold for me to hold a pose but this was the best I could do before I had to put my coat back on Damn, it was super cold.

After our visit to Blowing Rock we re-visit our pub in the town of Blowing Rock for some refreshments

On the way back home, we pass by a roadside place advertising Possum Seasoning. I don’t know if this is seasoning made out of possum or if it is seasoning for cooking a possum

Today we go in search of some wineries. But first we have lunch in downtown Lenoir. This is a historic downtown restaurant. See if you can guess what year it was established

Off in search of wineries
In the town of Morgonton we find this combination antique and winery

We continue a nice ride in the country and find a very nice winery in a beautiful setting

It’s time to head to Asheville. We pack up and head to a nice RV park outside of Asheville (Waynesville). We enjoyed the trips on the Blue Ridge and our visits to wineries, Boone & Blowing Rock but it’s time to continue our journey.
The day was spent in boring travel so no pictures or stories today.

More to come …
